One to one tutorial and Sites for research–Book: BLUETS

Bluets, 2009

I am excited to be able to clarify my research questions after this week’s tutorial, to explore expression and to be exposed to Maggie Nelson’s literary form that based on Autotheory .

The book is a philosophical and personal meditation on the color blue, lost love, grief and existential solitude.

I was greatly inspired by these 210 propositions:Each proposition is either a sentence or a short paragraph. The propositions are arranged neither chronologically nor thematically

The critic Thomas Larson refers to the structure as a “nomadic mosaic”: “Its structure is built by pulling away from the core and by keeping attached to the core

Sites for research–Film: Endless Poetry

The film:Endless Poetry

“A naked virgin will illuminate your path, with a blazing butterfly.”

Poetry, you shall illuminate my path like a blazing butterfly” ——Jodorowsky

Endless Poetry is a 2016 French-Chilean drama film directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky. It is a sequel and the second part of Jodorowsky’s film autobiography, it depicts the adolescence and youth of Jodorowsky in the bohemian Matucana neighborhood of Santiago, in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

This seemingly first-perspective narrative is in fact a mixture of ideas and experiences from different times and places. The memories in the autobiography are thoughtfully processed, and this can be seen visually in the film in a dramatised way. It also gave me a vivid glimpse of the poet’s youth, mixed with experiences and self-examination from different times and spaces, which became a good reference for my autobiographical theory.

Sites for research–Artist: Leonora Carrington

Leche del sueño (The Milk of Dreams) – as Gabriel Weisz, the artist’s son, dubbed the collection of fairy tales – conceals a universe of disturbing images that, by using a bizarre verbal-visual language, narrates the story of mutant creatures that fill her fanciful universes including children who lose their heads, vultures trapped in gelatin, and carnivorous machines. Under their childish veneer, Carrington’s stories are scraps of dreams that are like a mother’s milk, essential to a child’s growth and development. As it is in the whole Carrington’s work, the tales of Leche del sueño show a magical world where life is constantly re-envisioned through the prism of the imagination, and where everyone can change, be transformed, become something or someone else. (Stefano Mudu, 2022)

In Carrington’s world, human is free, surreal and ideologically altered figuratively. Seemingly an antithesis in a patriarchal political society without being tough, it is more benevolent, soft, tolerant and unbound, the Biennale touches a part of people’s mind that has always existed but is not mainstreamed in society, and its presence enriches and completes this human world.

Lithography Workshop Zinc Plate & Stone

I started two kinds of lithography this week. Inspired by the Milk of Dreams, my butterfly lithography is gradually leaning towards surrealism, feminism, nature and spirituality.
