I realised that my critical lenses overlap with many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including the fact that my areas of interest are mainly focused on SDG3/4/5, while many other areas such as SDG13/14/15 are also involved in my research and questions.

I would like to supplement the WHY and research questions in CPP section01, grounding it in SDG4 and exploring it in relation to the other SDGs.

WHAT: Blue Butterfly

WHY: 

  1. Memories of childhood–>A place and projection of beautiful and joyful emotions(SDG3)
  2. Natural, divine, original and spiritual–>Spiritual, original, civilised, fully alive, following the laws of nature and living in harmony with nature(SDG3/4/13/14/15)
  3. Breaking the cocoon into a butterfly,Representing the growth of life–>Individual learning and growth, the pursuit and realization of a better physical and spiritual state(SDG3/4)
  4. A beautiful, fragile and resilient feminism–>The independence, integrity, equality and beauty of individual life(SDG5/10)
  5. Relief from pain, symbol of freedom and a state of peaceful joy–>The construction of a more balanced and free human life and state(SDG3/4/5/10/11/13/14/15)

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

  1. What kind of artistic techniques and visualisations can be used to present the ‘blue butterfly’ and the abstract concept it represents in an educational or inspiring way?
  2. How to use existing illustration techniques to bring a sense of immersion, relaxation and healing that is closer to nature, spiritual and environmentally friendly?
  3. In what ways can it resonate with young people and children and bring comfort and positive or inspiring energy in terms of youth mental health and mindset growth?

Screen printing Workshop

I try to bring myself into a mind-flow experience to portray my butterflies. This quest for inner peace is like the Heart Sutra, and coincidentally, my butterflies gradually change from images to symbols and finally to shapes like calligraphic words, which are arranged like sutras.

Academic Support Workshop:

Identity through textiles

I attended the workshop Identity through textiles because of its title and I wanted to experiment with more three-dimensional creations and different media. Because I’m interested in more spiritual, natural and original topics, Self-awareness is the word I choose for identity.

“What does Identity mean to you as an artist?”

I put the bent wire in the middle represents the development of a person’s sense of self or understanding of identity.

In its development, there are other influences and circumstances, so I have interspersed different wires and tags to symbolise external influences and perceptions.


The sense of self is spinning and shifting in the process, and the reflection behind it is a reflection of the development of a sense of identity.

So the comment about identity shifted and moved is relevant. Inner and outer connection through the timeline is also quite relevant.

I painted a bright curving path to symbolise the process of practice as free flowing. like elina said just like a stream.


The butterfly is a symbol of identity, it always covers the direction I am pursuing, and what I am communicating. So I painted flowers to represent my artistic creations and the direction of my artistic pursuits, and eyes to represent self-examination, reflection.

Reflection:

I feel this workshop is very helpful. It got us thinking quickly about our ideas and creating them with our hands in many small tasks. It was also a valuable experience to gain feedback from peers after uploading and sharing, and to learn what unused perspectives and understandings we would get for our thoughtful ideas.

Tate Britain: CORNELLA PARKER

Transforming everyday objects into works of art, Cornelia Parker pushes the boundaries of what we understand sculpture to be. The made becomes unmade or remade, and this conversion releases not only a new reading of the object, but in its immersive reassembly, a sense of wonder and awe.

Reflection:

Her work has given me a new understanding and inspiration on the forms of expression and presentation of art, where many abstract concepts can find existing visual and tactile vehicles to present to the viewer and serve as a sensory communication.
