Screen Printing-Final

My research this week was based on the Topic for Cpp:

Personal growth and healing, surrealism, feminism, spirituality and nature

For my third screen printing workshop, I focused on the colour palette and the sense of storytelling in the images. I experimented with different base colours with different coloured butterflies for the print effect, combining the symbolism of red, yellow and blue butterflies representing childhood friends.

Sites of research: A Healing Art/ Art Therapy

 (1) The main media of art therapy include painting, drawing, music, drama, dance, drama, and writing (Chiang et al., 2019). (2) Main contents of painting and drawing include blind drawing, spiral drawing, drawing moods and self-portraits (Legrand et al., 2017Abbing et al., 2018Papangelo et al., 2020). (3) Art therapy is mainly used for cancer, depression and anxiety, autism, dementia and cognitive impairment, as these patients are reluctant to express themselves in words (Attard and Larkin, 2016Deshmukh et al., 2018Chiang et al., 2019).

Sites for research: Frida Kahol

Frida Kahlo looks us proudly in the eyes. Her hair is in braids which she has tied up with a purple scarf. Adorned with two silver butterflies, it almost resembles a crown. The butterfly is a symbol of regeneration and rebirth, and Kahlo, who had suffered a series of traumatic miscarriages, frequently makes use of such allegories in her work(2020,SCHIRN MAGAZINE).

Group tutorial & Autotheory

In this week’s tutorial, I realised that I was already using autotheory without thoroughly explain what it was. Therefore, I read autotheory in three different places to outline his definition as well as possible.

Autotheory: A challenge to the dominant perspective and theoretical framework through the use of subjective and autobiographical material.

Autotheory—the commingling of theory and philosophy with autobiography—as a mode of critical artistic practice indebted to feminist writing and activism.

“Autotheory” is a term that has emerged to describe contemporary works of literature, art, and art writing that integrate autobiography and other explicitly subjective and embodied modes with discourses of philosophy and theory in ways that transgress genre conventions and disciplinary boundaries.

UNATTRIBUTABLE BRIEFS : ACT ONE

On Friday I attended Rudy Loewe’s exhibition to learn more about their research into historical material. I learnt about learning through archives and found some ways to fit in with my research including Kew Garden and the Welcome Collection.
Following is an exercise in visual expression using words materials provided by Rudy.
